The city is situated on the banks of Chambal
River and is a key budding industrial
centre. The city encompasses Asia’s largest
fertile plant, a nuclear power station and a
precision instrument unit. This city
embraces major industries such as paper,
oil, textile, cotton, strawboard, nylon,
bone mills, and a distillery. Kota is placed
on the distance of about 242 km from Jaipur.
The city is famous for its royal Rajput
culture, and is the fifth largest city of
Rajasthan. The paintings from Kota are
famous all over. Kota is also known for its
‘Kota doria sarees’. These saris are very
popular and stylish, and are very soothing
for summers. Kota is also recognized as an
education hub. The city houses five colleges
which are affiliated with university of
Rajasthan.
Kota sandstone is very popular for its
quality of lime stone and unique property.
Numerous spots for picnic and hang outs is
yet another specialty of the city. The city
holds the largest fort of Rajasthan-
Shahabad & Mosque Fort built in 1577 AD
during the reign of Aurangzeb.
Shergarh Fort is even worth a visit.
Shergarh Wildlife Sanctuary dwells various
endangered species of animals such as tiger,
leopards, and wild boar. The collection of
flora and fauna includes rich woods of dry
teak, Khair and Dhok trees. The other
attractions of the city are Maharao Madho
Singh Museum, Chambal Garden, Govt. Museum,
Haveli of Devtaji, Kota Barrage, Rana Pratap
Sagar Dam, Jag Mandir and Darah wildlife
Sanctuary.
Wildlife lovers can also enjoy a trip to
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary that lies in the
outskirts of the city. The sanctuary covers
an area of about 250 sq. km. and houses many
species. Leopards, Panthers, Sambhars,
Antelopes, Bears, Deers, and Wild boars can
be seen in their natural habitats of the
national park.
