An awe-inspiring fort, constructed during
the sovereignty of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh
II. The Nahargarh Fort’s architecture
encompasses a fusion of the Indo-European
style. The fort is located at a height of
approx. 700 feet, and is about 15 km from
the city center. The fort was established in
1734 for residence and security, and is also
known as ‘Tiger Fort’.
The term Nahargarh means ‘the abode of the
tiger’, and is one of the first three forts
placed in Jaipur. The name Nahargarh even
carries a past with it. Precisely, it was
named after a dead Rathore prince named
Nahar Singh, whose spirit haunted the fort,
during the construction.
The fort is sited at the hill-top of the
Aravali range. It was made to uphold the
city, along with Amber and Jaigarh Fort. The
fort offers a spectacular view of this royal
Pink city from the top of the fort.
The key attraction of the fort is Madhvendra
Bhawan. It encompasses the kings’ suite and
nine apartments allotted to various queens,
along with their names which are mentioned
on the top of each apartment. The Man Sagar
Lake looks amazing and the sight is
stupendous. The fort comes alive at night
with beautiful lights. A café serves with
beverages and snacks within the premises to
cater refreshments to the visitors. It’s a
Rajasthan tourisms café and offers a
magnificent view.
Nahargarh Biological Park:
The park is a delight for wildlife lovers.
The park covers an area of about 7.2 sq. km.
The collection of flora and fauna is worth
watching. The park holds a compilation of
lions, tigers, crocodiles, langoors,
monkeys, leopards, etc. The lush greenery of
the park is a preferable habitat of numerous
animals.
