Jantar Mantar is one of the finest and
striking monuments by astronomers and
architectures of the past. It is a
compilation of architectural astronomical
devices which provided accurate astronomical
results. It has even struck the modern
approach of science.
Jantar Mantar is the most well-known
observatory amongst all the buildings formed
during the sovereignty of Maharaja Sawai Jai
Singh II. The king is renowned for its
archeological and astronomical proficiency.
Jantar Mantar displays the two Ram Yantras,
which embraces the biggest stone of the
world and is sole in its seclusion. The
king’s passion within astronomy brought this
great observatory into existence. These
instruments were used to examine and plot
the celestial movements of constellations
and stars.
This amazing observatory of Jantar Mantar
was constructed in 18th century using red
stone and marble. Its complex instruments,
the settings, and the shapes are accurately
designed. All such features make this
monument so unique. This observatory is
amongst the five observatories which still
exist in the world.
Basically, the observatory consists of
fourteen geometric devices which assist in
astronomical studies. For instance, Samrat
Yantra is the gigantic sundial amongst all
creations which stands at a height of 30
meters. The Laghu Samrat Yantra is a small
sun dial and tells the accurate local time,
a remarkable structural exemplary.
