Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder and

several artisans from various parts of the
country to build this magnificent heritage
city. The royal forts and palaces where
Maharajas and their royal families dwelled
are so exquisite. The city is renowned
around the globe for its alluring monuments.
These enthralling monuments were majorly
constructed during the reign of Maharaja
Sawai Jai Singh II (1699-1744).
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II planned the
architecture of the city majorly considering
the security of the city. Jaipur comprises
of three forts- Amber Fort, Jai Garh Fort,
and Nahargarh Fort. Each fort was built for
specific usage- residential and defense. Jai
Garh Fort was specifically built for
security of this royal city. Forts offer
many fascinating sections such as temples,
gardens, museum, etc.
Specially, the Sheesh Mahal at Amber Fort,
this section of the fort is adorned with
exclusive mirror work. The mirrors in the
hall are so creatively placed that even a
minute shaft of light was enough to brighten
up the entire hall. A very exciting elephant
ride with a spectacular view of Jaipur
skyline is offered to the visitors at Amber
Fort. Similarly, other forts such as Jai
Garh Fort houses world’s largest cannon on
wheels namely ‘Jai Ban’. Gardens, palaces,
armory, gun foundry, museum and temples are
other lures that Jai Garh Fort encompasses.
During the reign of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh
II, Nahargarh Fort was the first fort built.
It is a perfect destination to please your
eyes with the breathtaking view of the
entire city. The fascinating Man Sagar Lake
enhances the view. The fort comes alive
during the night with decorative lights.
The lavish palace for the residence of the
king was built namely ‘The City Palace’. The
present heir to the throne and the royal
family still lives there. While visiting,
you will definitely feel the grandeur of the
Maharajas, who lived in such magnificent
forts and palaces. You will wish to revisit
