Jaipur is the only city, where you can be a
part of such mesmerizing festival.
In
India, elephants are treated as royal
animals from medieval era. The elephants
portray undefined strength, and were
employed by Maharajas while hunting, during
battles. However, when they were not in
battles, they became a necessary unit in the
festive processions. The Elephant Festival
has a major focus on elephants only, but the
other activities are also very eye-catching.
People from all over the world visit Jaipur
to be a part of this magnificent
celebration. The celebration proceeds with a
procession where an elephant leads the
parade inside the stadium. The gigantic
procession embraces musical bands, trumpets,
horses, camels, chariots, cannons, and lot
of palanquins in a parade.
Beautifully decorated elephants perform many
activities. The renowned elephant polo games
see these giants play so swiftly. It is
amazing and excites the audience. The
festival is celebrated during Holi (festival
of colors) at Chaugan Stadium (the stadium
specially designed for the specific
festival).
One can feel the grandeur of Maharajas, by
being a part of it. The royal looking
elephants are adorned with various
nick-nacks, bright colors, flamboyant
coverings, and jewelry. The female elephants
look just so adorable in the beauty pageant
for elephants. To win the pageant of the
best-dressed elephant, it is a dream for
every mahawat (owner of the elephant) to win
as it is marked status symbol. The winner is
awarded by Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh of
Jaipur.
