Agra is a heritage city, renowned all around
the globe for its marvelous monument, ‘The
Taj Mahal’. Sited at a distance of about 235
kms from Jaipur, this is one city that every
person desires to visit once, to admire the
beauty of ‘Taj…a tribute to a beloved’.
Since its inception in 1504, this city was
entitled as ‘Agrevna’. Today, the city is
known as the 19th most populous city in
India.
Legends ascribe that the golden age of the
city began with the Mughal Empire and
acquired recognition with a new name
‘Akrabad’. Being the most important city in
India during the territory of Mughal’s,
Akrabad witnessed many monuments, for
instance, Great Red fort. The ruler’s
passion towards architecture, flora & fauna
bestowed many beautifully constructed
gardens and monuments in the city. The most
exquisite monument of the city ‘The Taj
Mahal’ was completed in 1653, built in
memories of Shah Jahan’s love, his wife
Mumtaz Mahal.
This mausoleum is one among the seven
wonders, sparkling with marble, it is an
acknowledged masterpiece. Besides Taj Mahal,
Agra Red fort, Akbar’s tomb, Mankameshwar
temple, Guru Ka tal, Jama Masjid, Ram bagh
garden, etc. are fascinating attractions
that Agra offers.
Agra is also a part of the Golden triangle
and houses many accommodation sites, hotels
ranging from budgeted to five star.
Bestowing that Mughal hospitality and
warmth, one can completely indulge in the
mystical whim of the city. The Golden
triangle comprises of three most visited
cities of India, Delhi-Jaipur-Agra, these
cities are the treasure trove of
architectural marvelous. Forming an
equilateral triangle on the map, they are
closely connected, and convenient modes of
transport facilitate the travelers. The
distance between Delhi-Agra is 203 km, and
is connected with National highways 3.
Fatehpur Sikri, yet another destination to
visit, situated in the outskirts of Agra. It
is also known as epic in red stone. Fatehpur
sikri is at a stone’s throw distance of 39
km from Agra, and is worth a visit. The tomb
of Sheikh Salim Chisti, Buland darwaja,
Jodha bai palace, Birbal bhawan, and Panch
mahal are the few exquisite places residing
here.
